The three main public hospitals within the Sydney Metropolitan area, are Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital at 8 Macquarie Street, 2000. This is a medium hospital with an emergency department with up to 99 beds. Sydney Children’s Hospital in High Street, Randwick 2031 is a specialist Childrens hospital with an emergency department with up to 200 beds.
Sydney Dental Hospital at 2 Chalmers Steet, Surry Hills 2010 is a specialist dental hospital with fewer than 50 beds. In central metropolitan Sydney, there are also a number of Private Hospitals. At private hospitals, private health insurance can be used by patients to cover some or all of the costs of medical care. The most widely known, larger hospitals in the Sydney metro area include St Vincents Private Sydney, the Mater Hospital Sydney, and Sydney Adventist Hospital. St Vincents Private Hospital Sydney is located at 406 Victoria St, Darlinghurst and has between 200 – 500 beds. The hospital includes an intensive care unit, and provide therapeutic, medical and surgical services. Mater Hospital Sydney is located at 25 Rocklands Rd, North Sydney 2060 and provides specialist services in acute renal dialysis, obstetrics unit, and intensive care with 200 – 500 beds. Sydney Adventist Hospital is at 185 Fox Valley Road in Wahroonga 2076 is a large private hospital with over 500 beds, and has an Emergency Department.
