It may make sense to copy and paste an Employment Contract, a bit from here a bit from there, even using some content from Contracts you have used in the past. Let’s face it, it would probably save you money right?
Wrong! At RWS we strongly advise you to use a professional in this instance. We advise this, to ultimately protect your Practice. Small changes in a contract can have huge impacts on you legally and financially. We have seen this happen many many times. Awards and Fairwork Australia’s regulations change regularly. Are you confident you can keep up with the many nuances of the law! Remember the famous phrase in law “Ignorance is no Excuse”! Do it right the first time, don’t get caught!
To further protect your practice, ensure that all Employment Contracts and any other confidential papers are put in a “locked” electronic or paper file. So that other employees or even staff themselves cannot alter. A PDF is a great idea!
